Fredericksburg Fall Frolic - Fredericksburg, TX
November 7, 2009
This is a great ride put on by the Hill Country Bicycle Touring Club. Registration was quick and easy even if you had not preregistered. The start was “on your own”…anytime after 8 am. The folks in charge were all riders and they had covered all the bases. The rest stops were well spaced and one was utilized twice to minimize the logistics necessary to cover a rest stop. Plenty of fluids, pickles and snacks were available. The route was very scenic and dotted with historic structures and massive ranches belonging to who knows who, but obviously to someone of wealth. Portions of the start and finish were along somewhat busy roads, but you have to get out into the country some way. SAG support was very good. No rider was stopped for very long without someone coming along and checking up on them. The post ride pasta lunch was delicious and was served in an area with plenty of inside and outside table sitting. This allowed you to get to talk with and get to know your fellow riders if you wished. And, of course, after the ride you could always head into Fredericksburg for shopping, dining or museum touring. There seems to be a lot to do in that town on the weekends. The ride is a bit of a drive from our area, but it is worth it.
