May Be Hot - Maybe Not Ride - Aransas Pass
November 8, 2008
All I need is a feeble excuse to go to Port Aransas. A bike ride at nearby Aransas Pass is better than a feeble excuse especially when you can stay on the beach at the State Park. There were several distances. I took the 60 mile option which turned into the 70 mile option after getting lost. Signage along the route is a definite opportunity for improvement next year. Many of the riders spent some time wandering around trying to get back on track. The folks putting on the ride were really hospitable. The rest stops were Spartan, but had adequate supplies. The first forty miles of the ride were enjoyable especially the ride out over the bay towards the Port Aransas ferry. The last 20 miles of the longer ride were along the TX 35 bypass between Rockport and Aransas Pass. The shoulders were quite wide, but the traffic was heavy and noisy. Wind was quite noticeable as should be expected on the coast.
Burgers and beer at the conclusion of the ride were a real treat. Not many offer that anymore. I would return, if only because it is near Port Aransas. |
