PEDAL TO PARIS, Blue Ridge to Paris and back
October 23, 2010
To say that this was a well organized ride would be an understatement. Not often that a ride gets put to the test like this one and came through in such an exceptional fashion. The out and back route to Paris was generally low rollers, fairly good roads with some stretches of very fresh chipseal. Before the start, each rider had to declare the distance they were going to ride and turn in a lunch order. The rest stops were spaced 10 to 12 miles apart and it was required to check in at each one. This check in meant that all the riders were located and accounted for when the storms rolled in and forced the ride to be cancelled. Mike, his crew, and the PBA got all the riders and their bikes loaded up and transported back to the start/finish when it was very apparent that the conditions weren't safe to ride in. Thanks to all for the excellent support. Hopefully next year the weather will allow us to go the full distance.
October 6 - 7
This was the first year for this ride. It was a great ride. The route took us through small towns. There was very little traffic. The ride was well organized. The route was well marked. The rest-stops were about every 10-11 miles apart, and there were friendly volunteers ready to fill bottles or take our bicycles and prop them up when we stopped. The rest-stops all had shade. The meals provided were very good. There was plenty of mechanical support and plenty of Sag support. This ride raised money for The Samaritan Inn in McKinney. I look forward to doing this ride again next year
