Ride the Hills the United United Way, Palestine, TX

October 30, 2010

What a great ride. Only a 2 hour drive from Dallas and well worth it. Beautiful scenery the entire route in the hills of Palestine. Route markings spot on, rest stops plentiful and spaced accordingly. I did the 100 mile route. Very nice t-shirts and yummy hamburgers at the finish. Everyone very friendly and helpful.
Please say a prayer for the ride director. He has come down with ALS or Lou Gehrig's disease. It was tough to see since last year he was perfectly fine. He is an avid cyclist and loves it very much as well has helping others. I remember in 2009 he was notified that a rest stop was not able to make it at the very last minute and he went out and set it up himself at mile 50. Great conversation and friendly. I will definitely be back next year. This is one of my top 5 favorite rides of the year.

Very nice ride and a great way to cap off a season. I did the 100 mile route. This is hill country and beautiful it was. Cannot even feel the wind at all for you are in the forest. Everyone was very friendly. Nice rest stops and cool looking t-shirts You really could not tell this was the first year for this ride. There is another one in Palestine in April put on by the chamber of commerce and this particular one at this time of the year is put on by avid cyclist. It should tell you something that 2 different groups are having a ride here at different times. I will definitely mark this one on my calendar for next year again and also the earlier one by the other group. Thanks guys. J
