Tour De Groves, Groves, TX
October 21, 2017
This ride was organized to benefit the Senior Living Center in Groves, Texas (near Port Arthur). It rained all day Friday on the way down, but the local weatherman assured everyone that the rain would be gone the next day and the sun would be shining. He was right. We had great weather for the ride. Although it was a small local ride, the organizers still managed to nail it. There were plenty of eager and friendly helpful volunteers. Check in was a snap! Great intersection control and good signage. It was a real eye opener to see the effects of Hurricane Harvey. It didn't affect the actual course, but you could see all the personal effects that had been ruined by the flooding piled up on the curbs and were waiting to be hauled off. It was a very sobering experience. I did the 33 mile ride, but didn't stop at any rest stops, so I can't speak for them. They looked adequate as I rode by. All in all, it was a nice ride and I look forward to doing it next year!
