Plano Fun ride, Plano, TX
August 7, 2010
This was a nice little ride with lots of potential for growth in the coming years. That being said, I have a few suggestions…
A separate table for filling out forms on race day would streamline check-in. This was not a huge issue but will be with increased ridership.
A more consistent approach to traffic control. I rode with the lead pack on the 31 mile course and was surprised we initially had no police escort. A motorcycle officer did catch up with us later but didn’t stop traffic at all intersections or else left an intersection before the entire group passed through, which tended to be confusing and a bit dangerous, especially crossing Park Blvd. At several traffic lights, we all, police included, waited for the signal to change which left several of us scratching our heads as to the intent of traffic control for this ride. For me, rallies offer the rare opportunity where I typically don’t have to stop for traffic or traffic lights. I missed that opportunity on this ride.
The course was marked fairly well but the arrows on the pavement and the volunteers at each turn need to be present way in advance of the actual turn. It would also be nice to get rid of some of those turns. At one point we got lost, police escort included.
All things considered, it delivered as advertised…a FUN ride!!

We participated in the fun ride this morning and wanted to let you know we thought it was very well done. We had a great time on the ride. The weather was a bummer but who would have thought we would have severe rainstorms in august. The stops were nice. the cheering on the ride was great. My 6 year old rode the 10 mile route and enjoyed everything but the hills. The support from the volunteers and the city was very much appreciated. I especially liked the fact that the police were riding with us.
Thanks and look forward to seeing you next year
