The Deb Tribble Memorial "Ride For Pride" Bike Ride, Grandview, TX

July 3, 2010

Thanks to the GVFD for adding the 100k! Other than it being a few miles short , (I believe some one just goofed on marking the roads because the map had it correct) no complaints. Had some of the best orange slices at a couple of the rest stops.See ya next year!
P.S. When I was trying to get info about this ride on the Bicycle Stuff link to this ride, when I clicked on brochure, nothing came up.

Great ride again this year. Beautiful scenery and very friendly people. Signage was good. Cannot beat the small town feel of this ride. Very minimal traffic making this a very safe ride thru back country roads. Cannot wait till next year.
(PS) We were not 100% sure if this ride was happening for the link information on Bicycle Stuff and Bike Texas would not work. Could not find info anywhere other than a date but thankful it did happen.

Note: Bicycle-stuff couldn't access the link either. Don't know what happened. -John

This was the inaugural ride for this event in Grandview, located 25 miles south of Fort Worth, and it's a keeper. Parking was plentiful, registration was exceptionally courteous & quick, the complimentary pre-ride food tasty, and enthusiastic volunteers everywhere! The scenery was as good as any ride that I've done; beautiful rolling hills, no loose dogs, and not a single car jacked up on cinder blocks in the front yard. The roads were in relatively good condition although there was lots of gravel at the intersections; the intersection marshalls were everywhere and they did a GREAT job of keeping the intersections safe. We opted for the 50 mile route and the first half was fast and easy, but the second half was as challenging a ride as I've done in a very long time - high temps, gusty winds of 26+ mph, and hill after hill made it much harder than the 50 mile distance; I rolled across the finish line at 10:48 and was ready for the air conditioning in my car! I didn't make any of the rest stops but they looked busy due to the tough riding conditions. This was a beautiful and challenging course and I'll be back next year - GREAT JOB GRANDVIEW!!! p.s. This ride was easily twice as hard as The Hotter-N-Hell.

I rode the 25 mile ride and then the 10 mile ride. These routes are clean and scenic, and the tree-lined roads provided shade for much of the distance. The sponsors are considering adding a 35 to 40 mile route and a longer route (60 to 65+) to accommodate even more riders next year. The volunteers were great, and the fresh pineapple was a treat. Had I met Deb Tribble, I am sure we would have been friends.

This was the inaugural ride for the Deb Tribble Memorial Ride for Pride in Grandview. Routes included 10, 25, and 50 mile courses, although the 50-mile clocked out as 46.7, so was a tad short. Not a lot of fanfare at the start and I would have expected the National Anthem in view that it was July 4th. Very nice scenery on quiet and shaded country roads with only mild hills. Some of the course overlaps the Burleson Honey Tour route that occurs in May. From Grandview, it runs to the east, crossing I-35W then north toward Alvarado, back across I-35W then back south and southeast into town. Volunteers were present at the critical turns and intersections and did a great job. The rest stops were well stocked and all provided shade and chairs. All in all, this was a good first start for Grandview and the ride should attract more participation in the years ahead. I’d suggest consideration for an alternate route in the future that starts you off into the prevailing southwesterly winds so you don’t have to fight them so much during the middle and latter part of the course.

Grandview, don’t change a thing! This is an awesome ride complete with: rolling hills, beautiful scenery; well tended intersections; abundant warnings of rough road, gravel and RR crossings; enthusiastic volunteers; ice; Gatorade; water; snacks; and a pancake breakfast! You have truly paid tribute to Deb Tribble. Congratulations! We will be back next year.
