Tour De Braz - Alvin, TX
June 2006
We rode the 30-mile route. Overall, very nice, well run event. First rest
stop a little too early (about 7 miles out). Route markings on the pavement
were very clear, with the exception of the last 8-10 miles, where suddenly
there were no yellow (30 mile route) arrows, and I freaked a little thinking
I'd missed a turn. However, the last 6 miles were numbered in yellow, so I
knew I was on the right track.
There seemed to be tons of sag support and good stuff at the rest stops. A
party at the end is nice, but not necessary, since there was good fruit,
chocolate, cookies, cold towels and a big fan! Route was very flat, easy
ride for newer riders and families.
June 13, 2004
First time for my wife and I on this ride. We did the 50 mile,
actually about 47.5 but that's OK. Registration was fast and easy although they
ran out of this years shirts for late arrivals (glad I got a shirt at all) and
had no "goodie bags". The route was nice overall although there were a
couple sections with very rrrrrrrroooough chip-and-seal. Not the normal stuff
mind you, but the stuff that makes you want your mountain bike :-) Sag support
seemed excellent and pretty obvious most of the time. Rest stops were well
stocked and had some really nice items like frozen mini snickers bars at one.
The last rest stop had a water mister and I absolutely loved that! Rest stops
were however rather weirdly spaced at times when routes rejoined later in the
course. No meals after the ride was a bit of a downer too. Do remember this
course is flat flat flat, just like the Katy rides. Overall not a bad ride and
will consider it next year, but not one to highlight the schedule for.
