Names or E-mails will not be posted unless requested. You don't have to write a paragraph. One line comments are great. In fact I am getting tired of long tirades. When you send in a review, be sure to tell me which ride you are reviewing. I have no way to tell.

We are considering a symposium of Ride directors to exchange ideas. If you are interested please contact me at bicyclestuff@gmail.com
Winter is here and once again I enter my plea for suggestions for improvement, criticisms or even compliments. Now while I have a little more time, is the time to improve and/or change. Any ideas? bicyclestuff@gmail.com |
24 Hours in the Canyon - Palo Duro Canyon, Canyon, TX
May 2009
Made a trip out to the Canyon with the team. This is Basically a weekend event, 2 nights of camping, 24+ hours of riding. This is geared to off-road bikes, and that is where the focus is. The ride HQ is in the campground along with the start finish line, facilities etc.
The roads inside the canyon park are long and in awesome condition, I heard the trails are great. It would have been enough to do the 9 mile loop all night and day.
There is only one ride length outside the canyon, 100 miles. However you must get out first, and in your way is the climb, around 550 feet in 1.5 miles with some 15+ percent grades, and that is 5 miles into the ride. The rest of the ride is pretty flat. But the roads are good.
The problem is the ride starts at noon and it was close to 90 degrees.
Every aspect of this ride in the canyon was great! Except the provided meals. A little more prep here is needed, sometimes not enough to go around for very hungry cyclists, and the very awesome caterers (thank you!!!!) prepped the food in Amarillo most likely, and by the time it got to the canyon was sometimes just warm. Maybe planning to have food that is made at the event might be better? And more of it! Need more calories!
Outside the canyon-
Roads fair to great – chipseal, melting tar were the low points. Almost zero potholes. Long flat roads. Fun Climb!
Rest stops – needs work, 15 miles apart, friendly folks, but food choice not so great.
SAG – great bike shop, great folks, just not enough of them to cover route.
Noon start – not good, big climb then 100 miles, would be great id roadies could start at 7 or 8am
With minimal work, a great and very fun event could be an awesome event! For roadies and MTB riders. The challenge of the hill is calling
