White Rock Trail

BTW: A week ago I saw a police officer giving a rider a ticket for riding without a helmit. I also heard a rider say running a stop sign cost hmm $210.00. Be careful out there

March 30, 2008 - Last fall I started parking at Anderson-Bonner park. I got to be a habit. Sunday I parked on the other side and I am happy to report that the trail is open and looks like it might stay that way. Maybe I should take some pictures.

March 3, 2008 - Here is a letter I received. If you are interested, contact the number below. - John

I don't know about you, but I love the temporary one way situation on Lawther. However, once construction is over, it will go back to two-way, according to the city. If you know anyone interested in trying to keep it one way, here is the email I got from the city.

Sir;
I appreciate your complement on the White Rock Lake Trail project. We should also thank the citizens of Dallas for approving the recent bond programs that fund most of the park projects such as the trails around the White Rock Lake .
The West Lawther is a public street within a prescribed public right of way. The Transportation Department has granted us permission to use it as a one way street temporarily to accommodate the construction activities. Once the construction of this project is complete, it will be converted back to a two way street. In order to make it a one way street permanently, it may require a much complicated process including neighborhood petition, traffic studies, public input meetings and city council approval. If you are interested in further discussion on this issue, please feel free to contact Mr. Steve Cherryholmes from the City’s Transportation Engineering Division at (214)670-3113. He may be able to answer your questions in greater details.
Please let me know if you have any further questions.
Thank you.

October 10, 2007 - "West Lawther Drive between Bay Circle and Mockingbird will be converted to a one-lane road northbound, with the other lane to be used by foot/bike traffic. Parks and Rec are tearing up the trail along the lake, and no schedule is set yet for completion." Wednesday morning: Lawther is already conned off. People are still using the old trail but it looks like it will son be blocked then removed.

October 10, 2007 - Someone took action. I "borrowed" this from a forum,

Hi, I've had the park staff working on this issue since you wrote and today they informed me that the contractor has re-arranged their schedule and it looks like the bridge and trail at the north end above LBJ will now be re-opened around the 3rd week of Oct. I know this has been an inconvenience but the closure was necessary due to safety issues. With the re-arranging of the schedule you won't have to wait until next year as originally planned. If anything else, please let me know. Thank you,

September 24, 2007 - I just talked to a person with Dallas Parks and Recreation regarding the closed bridge at the head of the White Rock Creek trail. They have just started a 7-12 month project to stabilize the erosion problem, relocate the pavilion and playground out of the floodplain, and move the bike-hike trail to a more stable location. The project manager is Raoul Delarosa (sp?), and his phone number is 214-671-9846. They don’t have any alternatives for access to the rest of the trail south of LBJ, but the only option I can think of now is taking Valley View Road over to the LBJ feeder and riding west for a few hundred feet to the old underpass at Park Central. This is not the safest option, but the only other choice is to cross over at Coit, ride south to Banner, then ride west to Park Central and the trail.
