August 1, 2009 - Plano Fun Ride- Plano, TX - A bicycle ride for children and their families on August 1st, 2009 at 8:00 am at Oak Point Park in Plano. All proceeds benefit the Relief Nursery of Collin County, a child abuse prevention program, and the Plano Children’s Medical Clinic, a clinic that serves Medicaid and low-income children.
There are 5 and 10 mile courses for families and a bicycle rodeo for little kids. While the Plano Police will be on hand, all riders are expected to follow the normal traffic rules. There will be four (4) rest stops along the way stocked with drinks, fruit and cookies. One rest stop will have massage therapists and a chiropractor on hand in case you need to work out the kinks.
The Plano Police Department Crime Prevention Unit will be setting up a table for fingerprinting and free bike etching. There will be fun stuff from our area McDonald’s, and the Plano Early Lions Club will be there collecting your unused eye glasses for those in need.

August 8. 2009 - Hot Rocks - Rockwall, TX Routes of 10, 20, 43 and 57 miles .Hot Rocks is an annual cycling event put on by the Rockwall Rotary Club. ROUTES THIS YEAR WILL BE FREE OF CONSTRUCTION! The proceeds from the ride benefit Rotary college scholarships. The ride attracts all levels of riders from aggressive to children and offers 10, 20, 43, and 57 mile courses. Volunteers provide rest stops every 8 to 10 miles serving drinks, ice, and fruit. All entrants receive the Hot Rocks T-shirt, on-site lunch, and the top three male and female finishers of the 57 mile ride receive cash awards: 1st - $250, 2nd - $175, 3rd - $100. There will also be gift certificates for the top three family’s - with a male rider under 14, and the top three family’s - with a female rider under 14. Additionally, one of our sponsors, Rockwall Cycling Club, has agreed to donate 24 oz custom water bottles to the first 600 registrants who pick up their ride packets. Early packet pickup and Registration for the Hot Rocks Ride will be at Rockwall Cycling (832 Steger Towne Drive; rockwallcycling.com) on Friday, August 7, from Noon to 7 pm.
This year our Race Start Time has been moved up to 7:30 A.M. to take advantage of the cooler morning temperatures. Another change for 2009 will be Staged Start Waves. August 15, 2009- Sherman Kiwanis Red River Classic, Sherman, TX at Apple Stadium, Austin College, 800 N Porter, Sherman, TX* * * M A P * * Registration opens at 6:00am and the staggered start is at 8:00am. Preregistration and online payment will be available by linking to the Sherman Chamber of Commerce web site. This link is in progress. All preregistered riders (deadline August 2) will be guaranteed a Rally t-shirt and packet pick-up will be Aug 13-15 at the Nautilus Bicycle Center in Sherman.
There are four routes planned east of Sherman. The distances available are: 25, 40, 60 and 100 miles (all are approximate distances). They are all on county roads with little traffic in the beautiful north Texas country. Port-O-Potties and fully stocked rest stops will be available every 10 to 15 miles.
At the morning registration, all participants will be entered in the drawing for a mountain bike, courtesy of Nautilus Fitness and Cycling, Sherman. We will have a concession stand open at the stadium all morning. One hundred percent of all proceeds benefit Sherman's youth charities.
