August 7th, 2010 - The Plano Fun Ride, at 7:00 am at Archgate Park - 6700 Archgate Drive, Plano,TX is a bicycle ride for both serious cyclists as well as children and their families. Line up and on-site registration begins at 6:00 am. Check the website for early registration discounts – www.PlanoFunRide.org! All proceeds benefit the Relief Nursery of Collin County, a child abuse prevention program. There are 4 road routes
: * 6 and 10 mile courses for families
* 30 mile route for the more serious riders - (No 67 moute)
While the Plano Police will be on hand for major intersections, all riders are expected to follow the normal traffic rules. There will be rest stops along the way stocked with drinks, fruit and cookies. One rest stop will have massage therapists and a chiropractor in case you need to work out the kinks. The Plano Police Department Crime Prevention Unit will be on hand for free bike etching in addition to hosting a bike rodeo for the real little ones. The Plano Fire Department will be there with a Fire Engine, Sparky, and other fun and informative activities. Come on out with the family and enjoy some outdoor time with each other and your neighbors, and help out a worthwhile charitable organization at the same time! August 14. 2010 - Hot Rocks - Rockwall, TX Routes of 10, 20, 43 and 57 miles Hot Rocks is an annual cycling event put on by the Rockwall Rotary Club. The proceeds from the ride benefit Rotary college scholarships. The ride attracts all levels of riders from aggressive to children and offers 10, 20, 43, and 57 mile courses. Volunteers provide rest stops every 8 to 10 miles serving drinks, ice, and fruit. All entrants receive the Hot Rocks T-shirt, on-site lunch, and the top three male and female finishers of the 57 mile ride receive cash awards: 1st - $250, 2nd - $175, 3rd - $100. Sherman Kiwanis will host the 5th Annual Red River Bike Rally at Apple Stadium, Austin College on Saturday, August 14, 2010. Registration is open NOW at Active.com - Event day registration opens at 6:00am and the staggered start begins at 8:00am. Packet pick-up will be August 11-13 at the Nautilus Bicycle Center in Sherman, TX, and at the event August 14. There are four routes planned east & south of Sherman. The distances available are 23, 43, 62, and 100 miles (all are approximate distances). They are all on county roads with little traffic in the beautiful north Texas country. Yes, we have some hills! For the expert riders, the elevation change has proven to be a great workout. Port-O-Potties and fully stocked rest stops will be available every 10 to 18 miles. We will have mechanics and SAG support available on all routes. Safety will always be our top priority. We will have a concession stand open at the stadium all morning and lunch after the ride. With 20, 40, and 60-mile courses that run through West Oak Cliff, Grand Prairie, Cedar Hill, and Midlothian, there is something for every cyclist.
